César E. Chávez Leadership Institute

What is CCLI?

CCLI students

The César E. Chávez Leadership Institute ("CCLI" for short), is a week-long summer program filled with workshops, lectures and activities designed to build communication skills, develop critical thinking, and inspire a passion for community service.

The program does this by focusing on three key areas:

  • College Preparation
  • Leadership Development
  • Community Engagement

College Recruitment and Financial Aid advisors will talk with students about planning for college while still in high school, how to pay for college, and answer student's questions one-on-one. Career advisors will offer students insights into how their own interests can translate into a future career.

Leadership Development

Sessions will be held with a variety of community leaders, elected and government officials, and professors. Activities include team building, public speaking, and exploring the challenges of leadership.

Community Engagement

Participants learn by doing. Students will participate in a community service project, such as cleaning a public park or assisting in a community center. Tours and workshops will showcase a variety of community service organizations.

All work and no play...

Your day is planned from morning 'til night, but we still make time to relax. Every year is different, but in past years we have:

  • Spent the evening at Sparky's Den in the ASU Memorial Union, enjoying bowling, billiards, foosball and other games.
  • Spent time at the ASU Rec Center enjoying basketball, volleyball, yoga, exercise machines, and more.
  • Attended a Diamondbacks game at Chase Field.
  • Learned to salsa dance.
  • Scavenger hunt through the ASU Tempe campus

You never know what we'll come up with next!
